William Mauldin, M.S., BCBA
Growing up, I faced challenges with traditional learning methods and struggled to fit into the "one size fits all" approach used in many classrooms. I quickly realized that I thrived when I could explore topics that truly interested me and seek support in ways that worked best for me. This understanding led me to pursue a bachelor's degree in Psychology at Mississippi State University, where I developed a passion for the science of learning and behavior.
After graduating, I gained hands-on experience working with individuals with intellectual and emotional delays at the Summer Treatment Program at the University of Alabama Birmingham and later as a behavioral therapist in a private clinic. Through these experiences, I discovered the power of applied behavior analysis (ABA) in helping individuals replace maladaptive behaviors—such as aggression, self-injury, and major disruptions—with meaningful, effective communication. This realization drove me to earn a Master’s in Applied Behavior Analysis in Developmental Disabilities from Auburn University and become a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).
Over the years, my approach to behavior analysis has evolved. I recognized that many traditional interventions focused on control rather than fostering autonomy. This led me to research, develop, and implement strategies that empower individuals to take control of their own environments in positive and meaningful ways. By prioritizing autonomy in intervention design, I strive to help individuals build skills that lead to long-term success and self-determination.
At Heartwise, I am dedicated to using evidence-based strategies to support individuals in achieving their goals while respecting their unique motivations and strengths. My mission is to create behavioral interventions that not only reduce barriers but also enhance independence, confidence, and personal growth.
